Mission:
Drydock
Location: Lor'Tan, Andoria
Talariana had been home for about two weeks now. Sitting in a seat across from her younger brother Relorolo in the backyard at the home they grew up in, she smiled enjoying the cold breeze. As far as the eye could see there was so much snow and ice. The Andorian shen loved being out in space. But there was something said about leaving home.
The door opened as their father exited the home. Rear Admiral Femelo handed a glass of Andorian Ale to each of his children. Taking a seat, he looked over both his children, nodded and smiled with approval. "Your mother would be of proud of you both."
All three held up their glasses. "To mother," Talariana spoke."
They toasted their falling loved one and consumed their drinks. "So have you decided on whether you will be returning back to the Meridian?" the younger brother inquired.
"I'm leaning more to taking an assignment on an Andorian vessel."
Both chen's looked over at each other, but didn't say a word. The Lieutenant caught a glimpse of this and wondered what was on their minds. Her father was never one to hold back his opinion and neither did her brother. "What is it?"
The Rear Admiral looked at his son, then brought his attention back to his daughter. "I think you should stay on the Meridian."
Both antennae stood straight up clearly surprised by what was suggested. "As I recall you never wanted me on an Earth ship to begin with."
"I can admit when I was wrong," Fermelo confessed. "My biggest concern was how you would be treated. But you have clearly faired very well. Your brother and I have discussed your career and those of other Andorians in your situation as well."
"Discussed my career?" Turning to her brother, she was clearly confused.
"I know that you very much hate politics," Relorolo spoke up. "But that's my arena. As you know the Andorian Guard has been assigned to the Federation boarder."
"A much worthy task that you no one could do better than an Andorian," the older Andorian cut in.
The younger chen antennae raised as he turned his attention back to his sister. "Outside of what father, just mentioned. Andoria needs to be recognized in this Federation more than just defense. United Earth gets to be explorers, but regardless of all the fighting we have done in the past few decades. We are a people who value exploration. And you get to be in a situation to explore."
"So to get this straight," Talariana responded. "You two feel I should stay to explore?"
The Admiral thought before finally answering. "It's more than just that. For the future of our people, we need for you to stay and move up the ranks on that ship. It will probably be a while before Starfleet becomes completely integrated and each world contributing equally with defense, exploration, operational Support/supply, research/development/administration), research/funding/resource/logistical/administrative support.
"No pressure on me at all," she laughed.
"I could speak with your commanding officer," Fermelo joked. Interfering in one of his children's careers is something that you wouldn't actually do. But he could tell by his daughter's reaction, that she wouldn't like that at all.
Relorolo looked at his father and simply shook his head. "You should be the one to voice your concerns with your commanding officer. He needs you just as much as you need him."
"Here you go with that politician talk," the Lieutenant replied.
"Yes, but it's the politicians that make the deals to get what we want," he reminded. "And for that I make no apologies. Trust me, those newest worlds will have no issue asking for what they want. And the further we expand, there will be additional worlds to this Federation of Planets. We need to make people never forget who the Founders of this thing were."
As much as she disliked politics, her brother made an excellent point. Relorolo was one hell of a mediator who had a great career in politics ahead of him. Talariana herself was even convinced by the points he brought to her attention. "Give me a day or two to think about this, before I come to a decision.
