Mission:
Drydock
Location: Medical
Thomas walked down the corridor, having seen the assistant, and the captain, his next stop was medical, then the engineering. He was still getting used to being XO, his second day at it, it would take some used to of course. Walking into he looked around. "Major T'ria are you around?"
Around? What an odd word choice. She looked up from her desk that she had been working at for the last 3.7 hours attempting to better organize the department inventories when the voice intruded on her task. Pushing away from her desk, T'Ria strode out into the main area of sickbay to see just who was asking for her...Ah. If her memory served--and it always served--the male currently standing in her domain was Commander Carey, executive officer.
"Greetings, Commander. How may I assist you?"
"Just reporting for my necessary medical when starting a new posting." Thomas replied.
"Your expediency in presenting yourself for required medical on-boarding is noted. This should not take long." T'Ria gestured to one of the exam tables. "Please sit. Your...orders?"
"My orders? Currently none... just the regular run of the mill transfer to another ship kinda deal. No orders to make notes of currently."
T'Ria raised a brow. He did not have any official transfer orders? How exactly was this human-led Starfleet managed? "I will have to formally request your medical records from your Command then. In the meantime, I will perform a comprehensive history and physical to ensure you are Fully Medically Ready to serve."
She pulled out a medical scanner and flipped it on and began scanning him. "What was your previous duty station, Commander?"
"The USS Challenger, not as illustrious as she once was back in the day. But still a good ship. Truth be told. I didn't even know I got a promotion until I was told to report to the Meridian."
T'Ria raised a brow in question. "You did not know? That does not seem very efficient." Humanity apparently still had much to learn from their Vulcan allies regarding administrative duties. Such a lapse would be unheard of on Vulcan. She glanced down at the tricorder and no overt deficiencies were noted on the scan. The human was in reasonable health.
"It happens... spur of the moment kinda things... keeps life interesting."
"Human rationale can be somewhat inexplicable." She responded. The medical scanner provided adequate data - the XO appeared to be in sufficiently acceptable health. "Your vitals and scans are within acceptable health parameters for a human male."
"So what you are saying is I am perfectly healthy."
"That is not what I said." T'Ria responded. "Your results lie within acceptable health parameters. There are some outlying results that could be improved upon, such as your cholesterol. This will need to be monitored as it could increase your future cardiovascular health risks."
"And stop my burgers... I think a little cholesterol does the body good."
"Cholesterol is and important building block within your physiology; however it would appear it is not very efficient at eliminating the excess...a biological 'quirk.' I do not know what these 'burgers' are, but if they are high in cholesterol then consumption of such an item should be severely limited, or ideally, abstained from."
"Being a vegetarian... you wouldn't like them."
"Ah. You are referring to animal flesh." T'Ria tilted her head considering whether to 'share' any further. The cause was sufficient. "I have eaten 'meat' before. It was during Kahs-wan, a traditional survival test all adolescent Vulcans must go through. I discovered then that ideology did not often hold up against necessity. I will therefore not espouse my culture's stance on the slaughter and consumption of animals. It is not my place to stand in a sense of judgement over another species' cultural mores. My only concern is to best manage your health. I will continue monitoring your cholesterol numbers; we will revisit diet if the values continue to increase. Is that a reasonable plan?"
"Works for me Doctor. Anything else?"
"No. You may depart. I thank you for your promptness in reporting, Commander Carey. It was agreeable to meet you." It was not 'Logical' to do so, but T'Ria had observed that humans responded favorably to such forms of commentary. She was 'trying.'
Smiling, he gave a nod before heading out the door.
