| General Overview | Plaatjes is an immensely patient man. One has to be on the edge of known space where a foolhardy decision can spell certain doom for a starship. The man is methodical, working his way through problems in a logical fashion in order to unravel the issue. As with many South Africans, once his mind is made up, it is difficult to change it. He achieves this mostly by shunting his impatience and temper to one side, and spends his time off-duty burning off that frustration in the gym or running laps around the ship’s decks. Once he’s burnt out his frustrations, Plaatjes is a ready friend, and will often extend a hand to help a fellow shipmate in need. A friendly, convivial sort, he’ll wade in to any party, and relishes any chance he has to get his harmonica out as part of a crew’s ensemble. |

| Ambitions | Now the Federation has evolved from the Coalition of Planets, and the War behind him, Plaatjes’s immediate ambition is to hop on a five year mission and explore the furthest reaches of space that he can. In his future career he has designs of becoming a flag officer for the Corps of Engineers. After retirement he hopes to either run the family ranch, or settle on a colony world and found his own. |

| Hobbies & Interests | A keen rancher, Plaatjes is fond of the hard work and physical strain necessary to run such a large establishment, and is a keen horse rider. As a lover of the outdoors, it should come as no surprise he enjoys hiking and outdoor swimming, whatever the weather. When not exerting himself in the wild, he enjoys boxing, rugby and cricket.
